Child Free Sports: Time to reclaim the wave?

The announcement that budget airline Air Asia X has introduced child-free zones is no surprise. Hotels have done it and some restaurants do it, but should we want to separate the kids from the adults in adventure sports destinations?

After all, they just get in the way, right? Nothing worse than having to watch for the brat pack as it potters around your favourite spot, slows your progress and generally irritates.

But could you ever really separate children from adults in adventure sports? And would you want to in the first place?

Surf in Iceland: Cold, bold and beautiful!

Two tectonic plates meet slap bang in the middle of Iceland. Little surprise then that this island’s been a hotbed of volcanic activity for years. Perhaps more surprising is that there’s surf in Iceland. And it’s good.

Some of the best surf available is located in remote places: in hidden coves, on the shores of mountain ranges, amid the ruins of ancient castles and on the fringes of dense forests.

If you travel to one of these destinations in a caravan then you’ll be truly self-sufficient; you won’t be held back by lack of catering or accommodation options. You can throw your Firewire Dominator shortboard in the back and go pretty much anywhere for the big surf. It’s a fun and adventurous way to practise your favourite sport.
